ABORTION AND EUTHANASIA The Plumb Line
I am against abortion! The Bible teaches that God not only determines human life, but God also values human life. King David said: "You created every part of me; you put me together in my mother's womb," Psalms 139:13 GNB. Isaiah 49:5 reads: "Before I was born, the LORD appointed me; he made me his servant to bring back his people to bring back the scattered people of Israel. The LORD gives me honor; he is the source of my strength."
Jeremiah 14:5 reads: "The Lord said to me, 'I chose you before I gave you life, and before you were born I selected you to be a prophet to the nation.'" Paul the Apostle knew that God chose him even before he was born (Galatians 1:15). Just think how many godly leaders, inventors, prophets, priests and potentially fervent evangelists have been aborted.

A loving and godly woman, Mother Teresa, said, "It is a poverty that a child must die so that you may live as you wish."

During my undergraduate training in zoology and biology, I fertilized sea urchin ova with spermatozoa. I observed cell division and embryonic development. Sadly enough, I extrapolated and accepted the embryonic "mass of tissue" idea about human beings.  God expressed His grace by not testing my convictions at that time.  His grace abounds to all who accept. My former pastor, Jonathan, preached a sermon on this issue. That sermon brought the facts together in such a way that God clearly corrected the error in my thinking. This occurred just a few years ago.

The book of Ecclesiastes (3:2) says it is appointed once for a person to die.  I am opposed to the taking of a person's life. Euthanasia is a violation of God's direction.

The two ends of the life span continuum come together under the rubric of sanctity of life.  When we value life, we identify with others; others are like ourselves, not different.  We then do not harm others for our own gain.  When we devalue others and view our “superiority” as a license to manipulate others we are the self-deceiving buffoons.  Many social ills have followed from this stance of devaluing humans.  We therein have a duty to be for others in a way that enhances others.  A better society flows naturally from this principle.

Prayerfully cast your vote

I have heard man’s “logic”: “Follow the money.” “Go for name recognition.” “Don’t vote for the best person; vote for someone who has a ‘chance’ to win.”

I, as recently as in the last primary election, fell prey to this thinking. Because my God is kind to me, with His grace, I came to understand the error of my thinking.

2 Chronicles 7:14                                                                        Back to Top back to top

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
