| A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT |
 |
America is the greatest county in the world today. This is true, not because of her economic influence, her military might, scientific accomplishments, and so on. America's greatness is due to her Godly heritage. The Declaration of Independence states: "We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights." The pledge of allegiance states, in part,"one nation under God with liberty and justice for all." Concomitant with "rights" comes responsibility. Adult citizens have the privilege and responsibility to register to vote, become informed, and to vote prayerfully. |
Remember that in most countries of the world, countrymen have absolutely no opportunity to impact the decisions of those who rule over them. For many their country of origin or ancestral origin is so corrupt, that a common citizen such as you and me, to voice one's position is to place one's life in harms way. This is neither the case in America nor in California.
Discouragement, pessimism, distrust, and defeat are pervasive among the potentially voting public. These are the most common responses I encounter among the disengaged and the disenfranchised. To you, I make the plea, don't give up on your government. Don't give up on your fellow man. Don't give up on yourself. To give up on your government is to give up on yourselves. It is your government, for better or worse, so make it work!
The Declaration of Independence continues, "That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed." It is our government so lets make it responsive to us. Cézar Chávez said, "sí se puede." MoveOn's 50 Ways to Love Your Country suggests a novel way to force an elected person to address important issues is to be the opposing candidate in an upcoming election. Are you willing to support a good candidate? Are you ready to be a candidate who runs against a bad candidate?

Prayerfully cast your vote
I have heard man’s “logic”: “Follow the money.” “Go for name recognition.” “Don’t vote for the best person; vote for someone who has a ‘chance’ to win.”
I, as recently as in the last primary election, fell prey to this thinking. Because my God is kind to me, with His grace, I came to understand the error of my thinking. |

2 Chronicles 7:14 back to top
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. |
