LABOR UNIONS The Plumb Line

One of the most obvious ways that responsible adults structure their time is through gainful employment, work.  It then logically follows that an individual needs to make lifetime choices concerning work.  The options must be weighed among the available work choices. It is with this awareness that the possibility of choosing to work within a union or to work independently must be made available to the worker.

Freedom of choice is the slogan. Samuel Gompers, John L. Lewis, César Chávez, and Jimmy Hoffa, to name a few, tried to improve the working conditions and the quality of life for the workers of America.  In short, unions have provided hope for the working people.  Nevertheless, there needs to be a balance, a common sense evenness and fairness reached between company owners (management) and the workers who do their part in making it all possible.

Congress enacted Labor Day, a legal holiday, in 1894 in recognition and honor of the working people. An effective leader pledges to workout an equitable compromise in disputes.  My desire is to serve the people by reducing antagonism among the political parties and being fair and equitable to all concerned.

Prayerfully cast your vote

I have heard man’s “logic”: “Follow the money.” “Go for name recognition.” “Don’t vote for the best person; vote for someone who has a ‘chance’to win.”

I, as recently as in the last primary election, fell prey to this thinking. Because my God is kind to me, with His grace, I came to understand the error of my thinking.

2 Chronicles 7:14                                                                        Back to Top back to top

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
